Founded in 2009, the San Marcos Artists’ Retention and Training Orchestra (SMART Orchestra) was built on a simple but important belief: our community is filled with talented musicians, and they deserve opportunities to grow, perform, and thrive right here at home.
As a nonprofit organization, SMART Orchestra is dedicated to enhancing the appreciation and understanding of orchestral music throughout San Marcos and the surrounding communities. In addition to keeping our performances free to the public, our mission is to retain local musical talent while providing meaningful opportunities for musicians to continue developing their skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.
SMART provides a fast-paced, structured, and organized full-symphony orchestra experience that challenges musicians to grow artistically while performing high-quality repertoire for our community. Since its founding, the organization has grown into a leading community orchestra in Central Texas, proudly serving more than 60 musicians and thousands of audience members each season.
